M(other) is a dance piece not only for parents and their children but also for everyone juggling the different roles in life.
M(other) is a dance performance performed by mother and son together. It explores the question of how family and career can be reconciled, especially for a woman. Raimonda Gudavičiūtė is both a caring mother and an enthusiastic artist. In the scene of the play M(other she unfolds in both roles.
In her interactions with her 10-year-old son, who adds his own influences and experiences to the performance, there is a constant exchange on stage that relates to many aspects of becoming and being a mother. In the process, the complex yet wonderful complexity of motherhood emerges. What starts as a family story evolves into an empathetic dialogue between two experts who not only share their knowledge of breakdancing and contemporary dance but also offer completely new perspectives on mother and son, gender roles and the relationship between art and life.
Raimonda Gudavičiūtė started her professional career at the Aura Dance Theatre. She then went on to study at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, where she graduated as an actress-dancer. In 2006 she won a scholarship to study at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Lyon. From 2007 to 2009 she received her Master of Arts (Dance) degree from the Finnish Theatre Academy. Since 2010, Raimonda has been working as a freelance choreographer, dancer and dance teacher. She teaches in Lithuania, Finland and Germany. In 2020 she was working with playwright Ingrida Gerbutavičiūtė and cinematographer Sebastian Heindorff creating the short film M(e)&M(other), which became the basis for a dance performance with her son. Since 2011 R. Gudavičiūtė lives and works in Germany.
